#TBT Alcoa’s Aluminum Gates

May 3rd 2017

Alcoa Aluminum Gates and Elevator Doors- A defining moment for Wendell August Forge was winning the contract to create elaborate aluminum gates for Alcoa’s new Aluminum Research Laboratories in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, just east of Pittsburgh.  The completion of the gates in 1930 would lead to desperately needed contracts for Wendell August Forge, including another for Alcoa's elevator doors. They turned out so well that the company ordered decorative trays inspired by the doors, to be given to Alcoa’s chairman and president. Alcoa was so taken by these pieces that they ordered several more, which ultimately lead to Wendell August’s decorative gifts line.
