About Us

Forge(v.) – to shape (as metal) by heating and hammering; one of the oldest working techniques of mankind.

Forge(n.) – a place where objects are made by heating and shaping metal.

Wendell August Forge(proper n.) – America’s oldest and largest forge, where hand-wrought, functional art is created to shape your life’s special moments.

Wendell August Forge is nearing its century mark. Since 1923, we have used hammers, fire and metal to craft art. From the gates of the great Alcoa company, to beautiful trays gifted at weddings, to plates given to world dignitaries signifying peace, to the ornaments hung on your families Christmas tree, we have been privileged to be part of America's history, and your history. Today at Wendell August Forge, our mission is to help you celebrate by creating heirloom-quality giftware for you to treasure. As purveyors of fine metals, our craft is meaningful to us because life’s special moments are meaningful to you.

And where most companies are focused on inventing new technologies, we’re investing in old ones. At Wendell August, our expert artisans hand-engrave original designs. Each piece is then hand-wrought by skilled craftsmen, using an eight-step process with its roots in ancient metalworking techniques.

The marks of both the artist and the craftsman can be found on each piece – the die-engravers mark is ‘hidden’ in the design, and the craftsman’s mark can be found on the back of every piece. Our metalcrafters take pride in our work so that you can be proud give the gift of Wendell August Forge.

While instant gratification and mass production may have become the norm in our culture, but time-tested traditions and “Made in America” have never gone out of style at Wendell August. Since 1923, our pieces of functional art have been designed to bring that special occasion feeling to your everyday life in a uniquely American way. We take our time so you can celebrate yours.
Wendell August. For life’s special moments.
