Christmas Delivery by Richard Bollinger

This is one of those pieces that you requires a few moments of study to grasp the series of events, and the people involved in them, to understand the scene the artist has captured. A road bike, with its thin wheels, leans against a stone wall. Both are covered in snow. Initially you may think that someone just did not put that bike away before the first snowfall, but a closer observation reveals there are footsteps coming from the bike. Someone was riding that back in the snow, and judging from the way it was left, they must have been in a hurry.

Why would someone be riding their bike in this kind of weather? There must be a good reason…

Perhaps they are excited to get to the house to open their presents. The title of this ornament suggests otherwise. The joy of giving, not receiving, has overcome reason. The perfect gift for someone very special was purchased, and arrived just in the nick of time. Without hesitation, the gift giver hopped on their only means of transportation to retrieve it.

This is one of three ornaments being released in 2011 by Richard Bollinger as part of our Artist Series Ornaments. Richard and Wendell August have partnered for a minimum of 4 more years to create these fine Christmas tree embellishment. Start your collection with Christmas Delivery. We’ll send it to you a gift box worthy of the piece it holds, which will impress the recipient and double as safe storage during the off season.
